  • MY: Junaidi: DBKU to soon launch five-year plan to spearhead its service delivery transformation

    Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will soon launch its five-year plan titled ‘E-DBKU’ to spearhead its service delivery transformation in line with the state’s Digital Economy Strategy 2018-2022, said its Datuk Bandar Datu Junaidi Reduan.

    Junaidi said the plan is expected to be completed in 2025 and it would comprise of three main elements, namely innovative digital solutions, service delivery and smart city.

    The KMKt Cemerlang group from Kelantan Matriculation College was crowned as the champion of the GreenCity AR iPad Challenge: Shaping Sustainable Urban Cities competition.

    The five-member group emerged victorious among 46 participating groups for their ‘City Batukam’ sustainable city model design, beating 10 finalists in the process.

    They were selected after a final pitching session with the five best groups held at AnCasa Hotel Kuala Lumpur, attended by a panel of judges, educators, parents, higher education students, and invited guests.

    The Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) has launched the first government 5G Technology centre, the MRANTI 5G Experience Centre.

    Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said the MRANTI 5G Experience Centre offers a prototyping, test, demo and lab area with speeds of up to 1 Gigabyte per second (GBps), for industry applications and use cases by vertical sectors to be showcased.

  • MY: Majority of smartphone users use device to stay connected: Survey

    A total 63.3% of smartphone users use their devices to access the Internet, according to a survey carried out by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

    In the commission's Hand Phone Users Survey 2014, the numbers showed an increase as compared to 44.6% of smartphone users in 2013, and a further leap from 11.5% in 2008.

    The Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) launched the Official Government Search Engine (1AKSES) and Digital Government Bulletin here yesterday.

    “In general, 1AKSES is the official government search engine, which is a project under the NKEA (National Key Economic Areas) CCI (Communications, Content & Infrastructure) EPP (Entry Point Project) 6 E-Government project,” said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu Anak Belaun when officiating at the launching ceremony.

    Sarawakian exporters are encouraged to leverage on Malaysia Trade Development Corporation’s (Matrade) e-services which offer bounteous and timely information as well as services capable of boosting a business’ competitive edge on a global scale.

    Matrade Sarawak also called for companies which are already members of the agency to update their profiles as well as company contacts for the convenience of interested parties and other users of Matrade’s e-services.

    The e-services, which consist of various online applications for the business communities, are accessible via various means that include the internet, SMS, e-mail, and mobile devices such as tablet and smartphones.

    Malaysia has signed a new deal with a private sector analytics firm to help achieve its goal of becoming a regional Big Data hub.

    The Malaysian Development Corporation (MDeC) and SAS have signed an agreement to set up a Centre of Excellence that will build and test Big Data proofs of concepts for government and commercial use.

    Broadband access was no longer a facility or luxury but a utility and more of a human right that could not be denied, communications minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek said toay.

    “Failure is not an option. To be a fully-developed nation, having broadband access is an important foundation to enable various online transactions to be done, such as e-commerce, e-payment, e-government and e-banking,” he said.
