  • Reports rates Irish e-gov as 'average'

    According to a new report, Ireland is a follower rather than a leader when it comes to e-government.

    Accenture's sixth annual global e-Government survey shows that Ireland came in at 14th place along with five other nations. This places the country in the "follower" category in terms of overall e-government service maturity. In 2004, the Republic was ranked 11th in the firm's report.

  • Republic of the Philippines ranks poorly in ICT index

    There are still a lot of Filipinos who have no access to computers and the Internet, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) based on an international study.

    Out of 65 Asian countries studied, the Philippines ranked a poor 51 in terms of the e-Readiness index. This dismal ranking is a result of the low connectivity in terms of broadband and wireless Internet penetration. Also, most of Filipinos are still unable to have access to personal computers.

  • RO: Bucharest tops ranking of smart city projects, report shows

    Taken together, Bucharest’s general city hall and the capital’s sectorial city halls ran the most smart city projects, according to the Scanning Smart Cities in Romania report for 2022.

    Broken down across individual city halls, Cluj-Napoca (63) becomes the city with the most numerous smart city projects, followed by Iași (56), and Bucharest’s general city hall (54).

  • RP competitiveness evident in strong macroeconomic indicators: Exec

    Claiming the competitive list released by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) must have been based on old data, Malacañang pointed out today that the country's competitiveness is evident in its strong macroeconomic indicators "that have caught the attention of the world."

    Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Ignacio R. Bunye said in a statement that despite the Philippines' lowly position in the list, the country nevertheless is making headway as far as the various facets of competitiveness is concerned.

  • RU: United Nations ranks Moscow top for e-government services

    Moscow is rated highest in a new United Nations study on e-government services.

    The new United Nations (UN) E-Government survey ranks digital services across 40 cities, with Moscow topping the list, followed by Cape Town and Tallinn, then London and Paris.

    The remaining cities in the top 10 are Sydney, Amsterdam, Seoul, Rome and Warsaw.

    A new report on internet use published this month by the European Commission shows Ireland is still lagging behind our neighbours in Europe.

    Councillor Keith Martin says that it is very disturbing that these new figures show that Ireland ranks 19th out of EU 27 in terms of broadband for schools.

  • Rwanda ranked first globally for ICT promotion

    The Global Information Technology Report (GITR) 2015 has ranked Rwanda first globally for Government Success in ICT promotion to drive social and economic transformation. According to the report, which was compiled by World Economic Forum (WEF), Rwanda scored 6.2 points out of 7.

    The Report was released on Wednesday, 15 April 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland. It features the latest iteration of the Networked Readiness Index which assesses the factors, policies and institutions that enable countries to leverage ICTs for increased competitiveness and well-being. Government Success in ICT promotion is one of several sub-indexes of the GITR index overall, where Rwanda is ranked number one.

  • Rwanda Ranks Among Top It Countries On The Continent

    Rwanda has been ranked among the top 10 countries in Africa that are in better position to benefit from new information and communication technologies.

    The 2013 Networked Readiness Index, released on Wednesday by the World Economic Forum (Wef) and European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD), considers several aspects, including a country's market and regulatory framework in advancing ICT for inclusive development.

  • SA: Riyadh Emerges as Top Smart City in Arab World, According to Global Ranking

    Saudi Arabia's Riyadh has emerged as the top Smart City in the Arab world, surpassing the capitals of France, Germany, and Spain in a global ranking. The Smart City index aims to assess how technology is improving the quality of life for residents. Riyadh has climbed from 55th in 2019 to 30th in the latest ranking, making it the third highest Arab city. Furthermore, Makkah, Jeddah, and Madinah have made it to the list for the first time, with Makkah ranked 52nd, Jeddah at 56th, and Madinah at 85th. Abu Dhabi and Dubai remain the leading Arab cities, ranking 13th and 17th on the list of 141 settlements.

    The Smart City observatory, one of the global indexes that evaluates the readiness of cities, is an interdisciplinary approach for researchers, urban planners, and decision-makers to assess the contribution of smart technologies in improving the quality of life for residents. The improvement in Saudi cities' ranking is attributed to the collective efforts of concerned agencies, including the National Smart City Platform launched by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority.

  • SA: Kingdom among top 5 countries in e-services

    Saudi Arabia ranks fifth among the world’s top 10 countries in e-government services and online government-citizen interactivity, according to a comparative study conducted by Accenture International, a company specialized in administrative consultation.

    The Kingdom was found to excel in providing online portals for public services and using social media networks to interact with citizens.

    The study was conducted on a sample of 5,000 individuals from the 10 countries that topped the list.

  • SA: Kingdom in top 40 of Network Readiness Index

    The Gulf countries continue to feature prominently in this year’s Networked Readiness Index Ranking (NRI), with five in the top 40.

    Bahrain (#27) ranked first, followed by Qatar (#28), United Arab Emirates (#30), Saudi Arabia (#34) and Oman (#40). This reflects the information technology sector’s increasing prominence in national agendas as a crucial instrument for global competitiveness, economic diversification, enhanced efficiency, and modernization.

    In the 11th annual Global Information Technology Report released Friday by INSEAD, the leading international business school, and the World Economic Forum released the 11th annual Global Information Technology Report, it said four Nordic countries are among the 10 most successful at leveraging ICT in their competitiveness strategies, with Sweden topping the list at #1. Singapore is in the #2 position. Other countries in the top ten are: Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

  • SA: Kingdom ranks 41st in UN e-govt index

    Saudi Arabia is ranked 41st globally in the UN e-Government Readiness Index 2012 and has improved to third spot among Arab countries, according to Al-Riyadh daily.

    The Kingdom’s rank improved by 17 places compared to UN e-government index in 2010.

    The GCC countries achieved good positions in this report that dealt with some 193 world countries based on the readiness of e-government in those countries.

    AlUla has been included in the Smart City Index 2025, issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), alongside five other Saudi cities: Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al-Khobar.

    This milestone highlights the progress of Saudi Vision 2030 in advancing smart city transformation, driven by pioneering initiatives led by the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with various government entities, according to SPA.

  • SA: Riyadh is the fourth most populous G20 smart city

    The remarkable progress made by the city of Riyadh is the second largest among the G20 countries after the South Korean capital, Seoul, and the third largest in the world, in the IMD Smart Cities Index for 2021, where it came as the third smartest city among the capitals of the G20 countries, and the thirty at the level global, surpassing ancient cities such as Los Angeles, Madrid, Hong Kong and Paris.

    Although population density is one of the measurement indicators for smart cities, providing smart services to the population of a million city is much more difficult than that of a millennium city, and among the list of the top 30 smart cities, Riyadh came in fourth place on the list, where there were 14 million and 16 thousand cities.

  • SA: Riyadh soars in global smart city rankings

    Riyadh ranked high by residents especially on provision of services in health and safety, as well as online access to government document processing

    Riyadh has leapt up the ranking of the world’s smart cities, according to the annual survey of residents’ satisfaction conducted by the prestigious Swiss business school IMD.

    The Saudi capital jumped 18 places to finish 53rd out of a total of 109 cities, one of the biggest improvements in the 2020 survey. Its new placing put the city ahead of such established global hubs as Tokyo, Rome, Paris and Beijing.

  • Saudi Arabia Becomes E-Government “Emerging Leader”

    In the “E-Government Survey 2012” report recently released by the United Nations’ Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Saudi Arabia has been ranked 41st out of 193 countries relating to the level of its e-government infrastructure development. Saudi Arabia advanced 17 positions from its rank of 58th in 2010. The report is released every two years and determines the ranking of countries based on online services available, telecommunications infrastructure, and human capital.

    Due to Saudi Arabia’s large jump from 58 to 41, it is now among the top 25 emerging e-government leaders. In addition, it is highlighted as one of the countries that made the most progress over the past two years. The top five countries in the 2012 e-government development index are South Korea, the Netherlands, the U.K., Denmark, and the U.S.
