A two-day international conference on intelligent cities will be held in Makkah in January next year with the objective of transforming Makkah into a smart city with advanced technological facilities.

Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will open the conference at Umm Al-Qura University’s King Abdul Aziz Historical Hall on Jan. 19. It will bring together a large number of experts from around the world to discuss the best ways to apply intelligent city concept to Makkah.

The Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce (CSCC)on Saturday signed an agreement to implement online governmental activities with the director general of Yusr, a program run by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

According to the agreement, Yusr will link electronically the chamber's offices in the Kingdom to various government offices.

Saudi Chief of Intelligence Prince Muqrin has spoken out about delays to a recent initiative to raise the quality of online governmental services, claiming that the system is not at fault.

Speaking after the formal opening of the second National Conference on E-Health, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported Muqrin as saying: “If there is a failure in the implementation of the e-governance, it is not the system that is responsible but some bureaucrats who do not want efficiency and achievements.”

The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be electronically linked with all government departments according to an announcement by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Riyadh on Saturday.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Communications, Saleh Al-Turki, head of the JCCI board, signed an agreement which will facilitate communications between the Kingdom’s government sectors.

Chief of Intelligence Prince Muqrin blamed bureaucrats for the delay in the implementation of the e-governance in various government departments in the Kingdom.

E-governance is an initiative by governmental institutions to raise the quality of services offered to citizens and businesses using information technology.
