Under the instructions of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, the Kingdom is planning to set up a digital electronic encyclopedia on health, President of General Intelligence Prince Muqrin announced in Riyadh on Sunday.

Prince Muqrin, who is also chairman of the Saudi Association for Health Informatics (SAHI), made this announcement while inaugurating the Saudi E-Health 2010 smyposium at the King Faisal Conference Hall.

Expatriates in Saudi Arabia can obtain an exit-reentry visa for a single trip by mobile phone via SMS. This first-of-its-kind e-service for expatriates is being provided by Ishaar and Al-Elm Information Security in cooperation with the General Directorate of Passports.

“Al-Elm is the leading company in Saudi Arabia providing e- government services. It is owned by the Public Investment Fund and offers people smart services that help them save money, effort and time,” said Dr. Muhammad Siddiqi, mobile services unit manager of Al-Elm.

ICDL Saudi Arabia, the governing body and certification authority of the ICDL program in the Kingdom, plans to introduce new IT literacy programs targeting youth, users of governmental and non-governmental e-transactions and the health sector to further expand IT literacy among specific community segments, in line with comprehensive government efforts to move towards a digital society.

There are currently only a few IT training opportunities for Saudi youth, who represent a large and important segment of society.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Mohammed Jamil bin Ahmed Mulla disclosed today that the Program of Transformation Into E-Government has received generous support from the Saudi leadership amounting to approximately SR 3 billion.

Opening here today a workshop of 3rd Measurement Mechanism of Transformation into Electronic Governmental Dealings, he emphasized the need for intensifying the efforts of all governmental bodies in transformation into the E-Government in implementation of the royal directives.

Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), inaugurated the electronic licensing system travel and tourism agencies in the kingdom. The inauguration ceremony was recently held at the headquarters of the commission.

Following the inauguration ceremony, Prince Sultan honored the project's team, and stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in the field of electronic transactions, which is helping SCTA and the private sector to develop interrelations through the latest technology going forward.
