An independent jury of experts selected 365 winners from about 2 600 applications; the winners will be introduced to the public from 1 March 2011 during a series of regional events.

Under Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has won the Platinum Icon in the Digital India Awards 2022 for their initiative “DataSmart Cities: Empowering Cities through Data”.

Under Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has won the Platinum Icon in the Digital India Awards 2022 for their initiative “DataSmart Cities: Empowering Cities through Data”. The award was announced under the ‘Data Sharing and Use for Socio-Economic Development’ category. The DataSmart Cities Initiative is a key step in creating a robust data ecosystem that enables evidence-based decision-making in cities.

The awards, to be given at the 16th National Conference on e-Governance on 11-12 February, are divided into seven categories, including ‘Outstanding Performance in Citizen-Centric Service Delivery’, ‘Innovative Usage of Technology in e-Governance’ and ‘Best Government Portal’. Gold, silver and bronze awards will be given in each category.

The Estonian capital, Tallinn, succeeds Taoyuan in Taiwan as the “number one intelligent community”.

The “intelligent community” title is handed over annually by the New York-based Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) – a global network of 180 cities, metro regions and counties, with a think tank at its heart. The think tank studies and promotes the best practices of the world’s “intelligent communities” as “they adapt to the new demands” and “seize the opportunities presented by broadband and digital technology”.

All of the e-solutions will go on to compete at the Estonian round of the World Summit Award 2011 which recognizes creative use of digital media.

Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts said the results showed that people have the greatest appreciation for services with practical benefits for them.

An innovative solution GoSwift for managing traffic queues at international borders is the winner of the 2015 Transport Achievement Award offered by the International Transport Forum at the OECD. The Award recognises demonstrated achievement of excellence in transport provision that has improved, enabled or facilitated tourism.

GoSwift, an Estonian public-private partnership, allows pre-booking of time slots and virtual queueing for border crossings via the web, a call centre or self-service terminals. Better use of the capacity of border crossing points and more efficient journey planning for trucks and tourists are just two of the immediate benefits.

The awards were first launched in 2003 and have been criticised in the past for putting too much onus on the relatively simple provision of online services rather than the deeper-rooted transformation of the public sector.

PCC won the Supreme Award on Monday (3 May) at the Association of Local Government Information Management (ALGIM) Web Symposium in Wellington. Council Website Manager Dale Hartle, who accepted the award, says since ALGIM began the survey in 2008, the PCC website has gone from strength to strength.

"In 2008 we came 23rd and took on board the feedback that year to where we pulled ourselves up to third place last year. We were thrilled with that ranking and of course continued to fine tune the site. Even so I was flabbergasted when Porirua City Council was named the Supreme winner that words escaped me - and I'm a Distinguished Toastmaster. It's like winning the Oscars of the web world!"

The goal of the awards is to increase awareness of the role that broadband communication and information technology play in economic and social development worldwide. Finalists from around the world, as well as senior representatives from governments, businesses and institutions, were on hand.

Wrexham Council has won a national award for its plans to develop the use of technology to help manage and improve the city centre.

The council beat off tough competition from across Wales to win the Excellence in Plan Making award from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

The award recognises excellent practice in developing plans that will help shape the future of towns and cities – particularly plans that are unique and innovative.

The award winning project known as Tradenet (Esoko) was developed by Busy Internet, a Ghana based Internet solution provider, and it is the largest SMS based MIS project in Africa. It won an award in the e-Inclusion and Participation category.

The government.ae portal won the 1stplace in the category of Best Government Website Award in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) within the Internet Awards contest held on the sidelines of the Internet and Mobile Show 2012 that ended recently in Dubai and was organized by Terrapin.

Saudi Arabia’s participation in this event, which continues for three days, comes through the working paper submitted by Eng. Ali Al-Soma as well as the nomination of a number of government agencies’ projects to compete for the conference’s five awards: e-Services, e-Content, e-Maturity; e-Economy and e-Project.

On this occasion, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa stated that Bahrain has embraced the idea of enhancing eContent with its efforts to keep abreast of the latest developments and create a knowledge-driven economy by supporting the development of a stimulating environment acting as a catalyst to promote creativity and engagement of youths in all fields of scientific advancements, including developing and designing the eContent, as well as putting a significant imprint of our identity on the international technology map.
