  • DE: Single public number ‘115’ among the winners of the ‘365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas’

    The single phone number for contacting government authorities in Germany, 115, is among the winners of the '365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas' competition.

    An independent jury of experts selected 365 winners from about 2 600 applications; the winners will be introduced to the public from 1 March 2011 during a series of regional events.

  • Deutschland: "European Identity Award" für den neuen Personalausweis

    Das Bundesinnenministerium ist auf der European Identity Conference 2010 in München von der renommierten Analystengruppe Kuppinger Cole für den neuen Personalausweis als "Bestes Projekt in der Kategorie E-Government / E-Health" mit dem "European Identity Award" ausgezeichnet worden. Mit dem Award werden herausragende Projekte sowie Innovationen und Weiterentwicklungen von Standards honoriert. Der Award wurde in insgesamt sieben Kategorien vergeben.

    Kuppinger Cole geht bei dem neuen Personalausweis davon aus, "dass gerade der elektronische Identitätsnachweis mit dem neuen Personalausweis erhebliche Bedeutung als Instrument für die starke Authentifizierung von Endanwendern erlangen wird und würdigt mit der Preisverleihung eine innovatives und technisch durchdachte Konzept, das insbesondere auch Datenschutzbelangen in hervorragender Weise Rechnung trägt."

    Under Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has won the Platinum Icon in the Digital India Awards 2022 for their initiative “DataSmart Cities: Empowering Cities through Data”.

The award was announced under the ‘Data Sharing and Use for Socio-Economic Development’ category. The DataSmart Cities Initiative is a key step in creating a robust data ecosystem that enables evidence-based decision-making in cities.

  • Dubai wins UN honour for public service

    The Dubai Municipality won the United Nations 2006 public services award in the area of application of information technology and telecommunications in the government sector, e-government.

    By winning the award, Dubai becomes the first Arab city to win the prestigious award.

  • e-Governance Awards to be given in India

    The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India, will present the National Awards for e-Governance 2012-13 to government departments across the country to recognise and promote excellence in implementation of e-governance initiatives.

    The awards, to be given at the 16th National Conference on e-Governance on 11-12 February, are divided into seven categories, including ‘Outstanding Performance in Citizen-Centric Service Delivery’, ‘Innovative Usage of Technology in e-Governance’ and ‘Best Government Portal’. Gold, silver and bronze awards will be given in each category.

  • EE: Tallinn named the “2020 Intelligent Community of the Year”

    The Estonian capital, Tallinn, succeeds Taoyuan in Taiwan as the “number one intelligent community”.

    The “intelligent community” title is handed over annually by the New York-based Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) – a global network of 180 cities, metro regions and counties, with a think tank at its heart. The think tank studies and promotes the best practices of the world’s “intelligent communities” as “they adapt to the new demands” and “seize the opportunities presented by broadband and digital technology”.

    Die einheitliche Behördenrufnummer 115 ist in diesem Jahr einer der Preisträger beim Wettbewerb "365 Orte im Land der Ideen". Aus rund 2.600 Bewerbungen wählte eine unabhängige Expertenjury 365 Preisträger aus, die sich ab 1. März mit regionalen Veranstaltungen der Öffentlichkeit vorstellen. Die einheitliche Behördenrufnummer 115 wird sich am 1. Juni anlässlich der Freischaltung der 115 in neuen Regionen präsentieren.

  • Estonia: Best E-Solutions Selected by Public

    November was Good e-Service Month and brought praise for 47 digital content solutions picked by Estonian computer users as the best online solutions in the country.

    All of the e-solutions will go on to compete at the Estonian round of the World Summit Award 2011 which recognizes creative use of digital media.

    Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts said the results showed that people have the greatest appreciation for services with practical benefits for them.

  • Estonian GoSwift wins global Transport Award for smart border crossing point

    An innovative solution GoSwift for managing traffic queues at international borders is the winner of the 2015 Transport Achievement Award offered by the International Transport Forum at the OECD. The Award recognises demonstrated achievement of excellence in transport provision that has improved, enabled or facilitated tourism.

    GoSwift, an Estonian public-private partnership, allows pre-booking of time slots and virtual queueing for border crossings via the web, a call centre or self-service terminals. Better use of the capacity of border crossing points and more efficient journey planning for trucks and tourists are just two of the immediate benefits.

  • EU government awards ask more of entrants

    This year’s eEurope Awards, organised by the European Commission and eligible for entry from 25 member states, will put greater emphasis on projects that demonstrate good practice and high impact that can then go on to be disseminated across the EU.

    The awards were first launched in 2003 and have been criticised in the past for putting too much onus on the relatively simple provision of online services rather than the deeper-rooted transformation of the public sector.

  • European eGovernment Award Winners Announced: Outstanding Digital Public Services

    Winners of the European eGovernment Awards were announced today at the Ministerial eGovernment Conference in Lisbon. The city of Amsterdam from The Netherlands, the Ministry of Government Administration and Reform of Norway, the city of Besancon from France and the portal of the Federal Government of Germany each picked up one of the prestigious awards celebrating Europe's most innovative public services. The prize for the "most inspiring good practice" went to the State Police of Italy as a result of a public vote. The winners were each presented with the European Award Trophy by Vice President Siim Kallas of the European Commission and Minister Silva Pereira of the Portuguese Presidency.

  • Experts Judge Porirua City Council Website Best In New Zealand

    The quality of information and services offered on the Porirua City Council website has won the Council first place from all 85 Territorial Authorities in New Zealand.

    PCC won the Supreme Award on Monday (3 May) at the Association of Local Government Information Management (ALGIM) Web Symposium in Wellington. Council Website Manager Dale Hartle, who accepted the award, says since ALGIM began the survey in 2008, the PCC website has gone from strength to strength.

    "In 2008 we came 23rd and took on board the feedback that year to where we pulled ourselves up to third place last year. We were thrilled with that ranking and of course continued to fine tune the site. Even so I was flabbergasted when Porirua City Council was named the Supreme winner that words escaped me - and I'm a Distinguished Toastmaster. It's like winning the Oscars of the web world!"

  • Gangnam District in Seoul, South Korea, Named the Intelligent Community of the Year

    The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) named Gangnam District, Seoul, South Korea as the Intelligent Community of the Year for 2008. In addition, ICF announced the winners of the inaugural Founders Awards and honored the Intelligent Community Visionary of the Year 2008, Scot Rourke, during the Intelligent Community Awards ceremony. The annual awards were presented by the independent think tank as part of its annual conference, Building the Broadband Economy, produced in association with the Institute for Technology & Enterprise at Polytechnic University in New York City. The awards ceremony, held at Stage Six at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, was hosted by Verizon.

    The goal of the awards is to increase awareness of the role that broadband communication and information technology play in economic and social development worldwide. Finalists from around the world, as well as senior representatives from governments, businesses and institutions, were on hand.

  • GB: Wales: Wrexham's plan for a 'smart city' scoops national award

    Wrexham Council has won a national award for its plans to develop the use of technology to help manage and improve the city centre.

    The council beat off tough competition from across Wales to win the Excellence in Plan Making award from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

    The award recognises excellent practice in developing plans that will help shape the future of towns and cities – particularly plans that are unique and innovative.

  • Ghana wins another award in ICT innovation

    Ghana, has won another award an in Information Communication Technology innovations contest by the World Summit Award (WAS) of the United Nations’ World Summit on Information Society (WSIS).

    The award winning project known as Tradenet (Esoko) was developed by Busy Internet, a Ghana based Internet solution provider, and it is the largest SMS based MIS project in Africa. It won an award in the e-Inclusion and Participation category.

  • Global panel hails progress made by Kuwaitis in ‘IT’

    Secretary General of Kuwait Electronic Prize Manar Al-Hashash said on Sunday the Kuwaiti electronic projects vying for the The World Summit Award (WSA) for 2009 have impressed members of the arbitration panel. The ten-day WSA is being hosted by India, Al-Hashash said in statements to KUNA here. The eight Kuwaiti projects that ranked first in the eight categories of the recent Kuwaiti Electronic Award, are competing among the nominations of 157 countries in the current international contest, she pointed out.

    The government.ae portal won the 1stplace in the category of Best Government Website Award in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) within the Internet Awards contest held on the sidelines of the Internet and Mobile Show 2012 that ended recently in Dubai and was organized by Terrapin.

  • Gulf to collaborate on ICT field developments

    Participants in the first-ever GCC e-Government Conference hosted by Muscat which opened on Monday, agreed, among others, the holding of a GCC conference to discuss the challenges facing the e-Government process, besides exchanging expertise and ideas and coping with the latest developments in the communications and information technology field.

    Saudi Arabia’s participation in this event, which continues for three days, comes through the working paper submitted by Eng. Ali Al-Soma as well as the nomination of a number of government agencies’ projects to compete for the conference’s five awards: e-Services, e-Content, e-Maturity; e-Economy and e-Project.

    H.H. Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communications Technology (SCICT) honored the winners of the Arab eContent Awards 2013 and Bahrain eContent Awards 2013 at the hosting ceremony held in Bahrain yesterday. The event, under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Mohammed, was organized by the Bahrain Internet Society (BIS), in cooperation with the eGovernment Authority (eGA) and the World Summit Award (WSA).

    On this occasion, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa stated that Bahrain has embraced the idea of enhancing eContent with its efforts to keep abreast of the latest developments and create a knowledge-driven economy by supporting the development of a stimulating environment acting as a catalyst to promote creativity and engagement of youths in all fields of scientific advancements, including developing and designing the eContent, as well as putting a significant imprint of our identity on the international technology map.
