Gandhinagar, Surat and Rajkot also awarded in different categories

Gujarat has been adjudged with five prestigious “India Today- Best City Awards-2013” in different categories at a function held here. While Vadodara bagged the award for overall best emerging city, Gandhinagar and Surat ranked best cities in category of Crime & Safety, Rajkot for Housing & Transport and Vadodara again for Public Services. All the five awards were received by Shri I.P. Gautam, Principal Secretary (Urban Development) of Gujarat Government from Union Minister for Urban Development Shri Kamal Nath here.

To explain the details of the fourth edition of this award, the ITA held a workshop on Tuesday. About 120 participants represented around 45 governments, private institutions, and SMEs at the workshop.

The Intelligent Community Forum (www.intelligentcommunity.org) announced today its highly anticipated list of the Smart21 Communities of 2011.  The announcement was made by ICF Co-founder Louis Zacharilla at an event hosted by Suwon, South Korea, ICF’s 2010 Intelligent Community of the Year.

The LRO completes 3,300 business transactions per day online.

The vast bulk of the Land Registry's business has moved online leading to 769,000-paid transactions last year. Since the online service was launched a total of more than 2 million paid transactions have been carried out.

At a ceremony in Dublin's Four Seasons Hotel, Bord Gais picked up two awards as it claimed the title of overall winner and the award for Best Commercial State Body for its website bordgaisenergysupply.ie. The website, which allows users to pay their bills online and submit meter readings online, was described by the judges as being in most cases "superior to almost any other transactional website. It is intuitive, fully functional and of great benefit to both the organisation and to its customers. It is a credit to those who led the project."

The CitizenFirst Project, which is led by the MWRA and co-funded by INTERREG North West Europe, is one of just 35 shortlisted entries that impressed the judging panel in the 2008 European e-Inclusion Awards.

The Eircom-sponsored event, called the "Innovation Through Technology Awards," was run by Inside Government magazine, a publication that caters to civil servants and public sector employees. The event marked the first year of awards and included a keynote address from Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and closing remarks from Eircom CEO Dr. Philip Nolan.

The governmental department was awarded the prize in recognition of its success in utilising electronic services. The Land Registry Office now completes 3,300 business transactions per day via its website. In 2004 the government department's site completed 769,000 transactions via the site and has seen more than 2 million paid transactions carried out since it was first launched. The Land Registry Office also picked up a "Best Central eGovernment" honour at the awards.

The organisers of the awards said that the recession should be used by Government departments as an opportunity to look at ways of driving savings with in their own organisations.

Bord Gáis was named the overall winner on the night for its website www.bordgaisenergysupply.ie.

The Irish eGovernment Awards, jointly run by the Public Sector Times newspaper and web usage and content experts Elucidate, are now in their sixth year.

Under the award, which will be launched next year, public agencies and ministries will compete for best e-government unit, best e-government service and best e-government project, Nader Thneibat, secretary general of the ICT Ministry, told reporters.

Jobs4Bahrainis is a joint venture between Gulf Connexions, Bahrain's leading recruitment company and Al Hilal Group, a top publishing organisation in the region.

Against strict evaluation criteria, the website won the accolade for, among other reasons, its support for steps to integrate IT into the information society in Bahrain; its commitment to reducing the ‘digital divide’ and content gap between technology-empowered and technology-excluded communities and groups; and bridging society through multimedia.

Jordan has won the Outstanding Achievement Award for the 2018 Best Smart Identification Card (eID), recently announced at the High Security Printing (EMEA) Conference in the Polish capital of Warsaw.

The award was received by Director-General of the Civil Status and Passports Department, Fawaz Al-Shahwan, during his participation in the annual conference held between February 19 to 21.

93 cities selected for main round of Seoul Smart City Prize

Seeking to encourage urban innovation worldwide, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has begun sorting out global city projects that cater to eco-friendliness, digital technologies and vulnerable urban residents as the city hosts the first international smart city award in September.

The Digital Policy Division under the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Digital Policy Bureau announced Wednesday that it shortlisted 209 submissions from 93 cities in 47 countries. It is the first smart city prize to be awarded by Seoul.

Kuwait won three prizes at the 4th GCC e-Government Award, Conference and Exhibition 2015, it was learned here on Wednesday.

One of the prizes went to Kuwait's National Assembly General Secretariat for having the best public interaction with its legislative portal which is called Take an Active Part in Legislation.

Mr Madelin delivered a presentation about the digital agenda during a business breakfast organised by the European Union representation in Malta.

The European Commission adopted the ‘Digital Agenda for Europe’ last May by unveiling a detailed action plan aimed to improve the competitiveness of the ICT industry by infusing a real EU-wide single market for online products and services.
