Underscoring efforts to enforce intellectual property rights

Microsoft Jordan has partnered with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) to establish a centralized data exchange platform that will enable the development and launch of 19 electronic services for 11 government entities. This step corresponds with the royal vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II to deliver a national e-government program that fosters socio-economic growth across Jordan. Microsoft Jordan has begun implementing three projects that will enhance data security, efficiency and productivity at all governmental organizations and departments throughout the Kingdom, in addition to providing a unified system that manages their performance on a national level.

The Ministry of Public Sector Development has launched a programme to engage top officials in ministries and government agencies aimed to improve the quality of services offered to citizens.

On Wednesday, Minister of Public Sector Development Khleef Al Khawaldeh met with 23 directors of government departments and urged them to work out applicable mechanisms to take government services to the next level.

Jordan's Central Bank introduces e-FAWATEER.com

The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) on Saturday officially launched e-FAWATEER.com system to help citizens check and pay their bills electronically via different paying outlets.

The CBJ announced in a statement that the banks which have linked to the system so far are Al Ittihad Bank, Jordan Islamic Bank, Egyptian Arab Land Bank, Jordan Commercial Bank, Arab Bank, Housing Bank, Cairo Amman Bank, Bank of Jordan, Islamic International Arab Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank, Societe Generale de Banque-Jordanie, Arab Banking Corporation, National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Al Ahli Bank.

Jordan ranked 79th globally in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ (UNDESA) E-Government Survey Report 2014, improving by 19 places compared to 2012.

The report, which covered 193 countries, ranked Jordan in eighth place at the Arab level, preceded by Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Tunisia respectively.

The Kingdom was ahead of Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Sudan, the recently launched report said.

Public facilities, hospitals, schools and agencies will be connected to a high-speed Internet network in two years upon the completion of the National Broadband Network project, according to ICT Minister Azzam Sleit.

In May, the government will announce the names of winning bidders to complete the project, which was halted several times over the past few years due to lack of financial resources, the minister told reporters at a meeting last week.
