Mobile Doctors 24-7 International is planning to establish a presence in Jordan and is looking for local partners to introduce its services in the country, according to a company official.

Adam Chilcote, vice president of strategy and business development at Mobile Doctors -- a Dubai-based provider of the 24-7 Physician Helpline Virtual Corporate Clinic and Home Care services -- said there is a potential for telemedicine services in the Kingdom.

"We are planning to introduce the services in Jordan, but first we need to build a network of doctors, hospitals and care centres," Chilcote told The Jordan Times in a recent interview in Dubai.

Patients treated in hospitals participating in the "Hakeem" e-health programme will soon begin receiving automated reminders of their medical appointments, representatives of the programme said on Sunday.

Hakeem CEO Rami Adwan said that in order to improve healthcare services in public hospitals and provide better services for patients, the company is currently working on a system that will send reminders to patients when they have scheduled tests or medical procedures.

Jordan is working a new ICT strategy for the next four years.

The strategy, which is being developed by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology in cooperation with a consulting company, is expected to be completed before the end of 2012, the Jordan Times reported citing a source at the ministry.

The official said developing the strategy is taking time as the ministry has recently been focused on other legislation such as the e-transactions law and the electronic documentation regulation, which were recently referred to the Cabinet.

The Ministry of Health and the "Hakeem" e-health programme on Sunday signed an agreement to implement the programme in public healthcare facilities around the country.

The agreement stipulates that within seven years, most public health centres and hospitals will be included in the programme, which is meant to improve healthcare services by allowing health records to be stored and shared digitally on a fibre optic network.

The government will not introduce new e-government services this year due to a lack of funds, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology said on Tuesday.

"We do not expect new e-services to be introduced to the public in 2012 because there is not sufficient money to do so and in light of the current economic conditions we cannot proceed with new services this year," Haitham Qaisi, the ministry's spokesperson, told The Jordan Times.
