Singapore is prioritising open data, care for the elderly and improving transportation in its Smart Nation plan to use technology to improve services, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said.
Singapore has an ageing population and the Prime Minister has made care for the elderly a priority for the Smart Nation agenda. The city plans to “integrate sensors, apps, remote monitoring to help our seniors age in place”, the Prime Minister said. Already one person in every nine is age 65 and above, and by 2030, one person in five will be 65 and above. “Technology can help them to live independently in their own communities with their own support networks”, he said.

A new tele-health prototype has cut re-admission of patients to Singaporean hospitals by two thirds, Steve Leonard, Executive Deputy Chairman, Infocomm Development Authority said today.
The demand for hospital beds in Singapore is growing faster than the supply, so the government prototyped a telehealth system with a small group of people. Patients took basic healthcare measurements, like blood pressure and heart rate, at home and remotely shared that with their doctors or caregivers.

Singapore is the best at using ICT to improve its economic competitiveness and social well-being, according to a new study by the World Economic Forum.
The study ranks countries against the Networked Readiness Index, based on the regulatory and business environment; the availability of infrastructure and skills; affordability of ICT; individual, business and government usage; and economic and social impacts of ICT.

While the Government will muster all resources, build the infrastructure and create schemes, the private sector and members of the public have to step up in order for Singapore to realise its Smart Nation vision, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said yesterday.

The Singapore government is creating a new office to house a specialist team dedicated to developing digital services.
From July this year, the new Software Design and Development Centre of Excellence will house the Infocomm Development Authority’s (IDA) existing Government Digital Services team.
