Transforming Government since 2001

Smart cities are built around resource planning, effective governance and an easy connect between citizens and government

A smart city is not just about accessibility and next-gen telecom networks. It is, in essence, about citizens being able to ‘talk’ to the government effortlessly, and vice-versa.

A smart city is about e-governance, the e-connect between executives and residents, efficient transportation and traffic management, and efficient civic administration, whether it’s water supply, power, waste disposal or safety. In a smart city, residents live and work in a clean, safe and healthy environment. The Centre has identified certain parameters that will help build a smart city. It is indeed an ambitious project and calls for rigorous planning and clearly defined implementation guidelines.

All Singapore citizens and permanent residents (PRs) can soon register for the OneKey calculator-like token to secure their e-government transactions.

A government bulk tender has been awarded to OneKey's issuer, Assurity Trusted Solutions, as part of a systems upgrade following the discovery of 1,560 breached SingPass accounts last June.

With just seven hours of flight or less, travelers from the region, including ASEAN, Australia, China and India, can arrive in Singapore. These countries constitute 40% of the world’s population, making Singapore a strategic hub and popular destination for business travelers and tourists. There are already close to 100 million travelers in Singapore every year and this number is likely to increase with the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. This development will impose greater challenges to the enforcement agencies’ efforts to stop illegal immigration, crimes, and terrorism from crossing the national boundaries. The need and demand to safeguard the citizens’ rights by preventing identity theft and fraud will also increase significantly. These agencies will need to tap on digital technologies to modernize border control and enhance the protection of its citizens’ identity.
