  • Malta: Two e-Government services get Good Practice label

    Two of Malta’s e-Government services have been awarded the Good Practice label in recognition of proven credibility, excellence and scope of research, by the European Commission.

    They are the recently revamped customer care system and the highly used vehicle registration and licensing system, Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) said.

  • OM: Meet focuses on eGovernment, best practices

    The Open Government Data & Best Practices Symposium, which has been organised by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) over the past two days at the InterContinental Hotel Muscat – Jabrin Hall, ended yesterday with high participation. More than 200 attendees from a wide range of public and private institutions participated alongside an international participation of a number of lecturers from the Spain, Sweden and Malaysia, as well as a number of IT specialists from ITA.
  • OM: Symposium participants honoured for excellence in e-gov service

    The Ministry of Civil Service organised an honouring ceremony at Crowne Plaza Hotel yesterday to honour participants in Symposium on Mechanisms to Develop Governmental Performance and Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-Government 2012. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Omar al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service, who said that the ceremony comes to reward the employees to achieve goals of the ministry.

    He added that the Human Resources System "Mawrid," which obtained the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-governmental service as the best 1358859507389632200 e-governmental project from governmental institution to governmental institution, is considered as one of the successful projects as it also obtained two awards from the United Nations (UN) and one gulf award.

  • OM: Symposium set to focus on best eGovernment practices

    The introduction of best eGovernment practices and the experience of government and private institutions in Oman on the subject will be discussed at a 3-day symposium here.

    The symposium on 'Excellence in eGovernment' begins tomorrow at the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa. The meet is part of the initiative of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment 2014.

  • Oman receives key UN awards

    Oman has scooped four United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) at the UN and Africa Public Service Forum held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

    Winning the honours for the sultanate were the Information Technology Authority (ITA), the Ministry of Civil Service, the Ministry of Education and the National Association for Cancer Awareness.

    The theme of the 2011 forum was “Transformative Leadership in Public Administration and Innovation in Governance: Creating a Better Life for All.”

    ITA was a first-place winner with its “Transforming the Society through the e.oman Communication Strategy’” in the category of “Advancing Knowledge Management in Government.”

  • Oman wins 7 awards for eGovernment initiatives

    Oman made a remarkable presence at the 3rd GCC eGovernment Award, Conference and Exhibition which concluded on December 11 in Dubai, winning 7 awards in 14 categories for various eGovernment initiatives, services and projects. The conference made several of recommendations necessary to foster the drive towards a comprehensive eGovernments and eventually smart governments. The 3rd GCC eGovernment Conference Commission has had several meetings on the sidelines of the conference, and concluded with a list of recommendations that emerged from the current GCC strategic approach towards the eGovernment and its implementation process. Also, the commission was keen on considering what has resulted from the recommendations of the two previous conferences in Muscat 2009 and Kuwait 2011. This is to ensure a specific build-on recommendations as well as a clear image of the present eGovernment requirements.

  • Österreich: eSchwechat.at - 2005 bis 2009: Die Bilanz

    Mit Ende 2009 endete das fünfjährige Standortentwicklungsprogramm "eSchwechat.at" der österreichischen Stadtgemeinde Schwechat. Zeit, Bilanz zu ziehen.

    Im Jahr 2005 hatte sich die 16.000 Einwohner zählende österreichische Stadt Schwechat - im Osten an die Bundeshauptstadt Wien angrenzend und den Vienna International Airport beheimatend - das Ziel gesetzt, neben der Konzentration auf Industrie (OMV, Borealis, HTM, Brau-Union etc.) und (Flughafen-)Dienstleistungen, eine zukunftsorientierte HighTech-Stadt innerhalb der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie (IKT) zu werden. Innerhalb der Fünfjahresperiode 2005 bis 2009 sollte aus Schwechat eine offene Stadt der Informations- und Wissensgesellschaft, eine Stadt der Bildung und Forschung, eine Stadt der Innovation werden.

  • Österreich: Kremsmünster ist Musterbeispiel für innovatives und serviceorientiertes E-Government

    Staatssekretärin Heidrun Silhavy überzeugte sich am 18.02. bei einem Besuch im Rathaus der Marktgemeinde Kremsmünster über Angebote der Verwaltung im E-Governmentbereich für die Bürgerinnen und Bürger und für die Wirtschaft. Kremsmünster hat im Internet eine Vorreiterrolle seit 1996, welche permanent mit einer Reihe von neuen Inhalten und Angeboten erweitert wird. Die Gemeindeverwaltung hat als erste österreichische Kommune das Angebot, Inhalte von HELP.gv.at mittels Content Syndizierung aufzunehmen, erfolgreich umgesetzt. Damit werden HELP-Informationstexte wie zu den Themen Heirat, Geburt, Führerschein, Umzug, Gewerbe et cetera in das Internetangebot der HELP-Partner aufgenommen. Die Informationen sind immer auf dem aktuellsten Stand, die redaktionelle Wartung erfolgt durch HELP.gv.at.

  • Philippine’s E-Nutrition mission wins int’l best practice tilt

    The Philippine’s e-Nutrition project bagged the grand prize in the recently held Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC) Awards under the ICT Best Practices for e-Government category.

    This is the second time the Philippines won the ADOC Awards in the same category. The Bureau of Internal Revenue won the same award in 2005 for its e-Filing and e-Payment System.

  • PK: Punjab helps KPK government introduce best ICT practices

    "The Punjab government will help Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa government to introduce best ICT practices to improve good governance and public service delivery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa," said Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Doctor Umar Saif in a meeting on Thursday with a delegation from Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa headed by provincial IT Secretary Farah Hamid Khan.

    In response of the keen interest shown by the delegates in the Punjab's IT based initiatives, Dr Saif gave an in-depth insight on the functioning of e-government projects taken for good governance and transparency in Punjab. He also talked about the board steps to enhance the efficiency of the public sectors in education, health, police, local government, food, agriculture, irrigation, livestock, disaster management and rescue. He also discussed the initiatives aiming to eliminate "Patwari and Thana Culture" in the Punjab.

  • Qatar’s e-govt services win UN recognition

    Qatar’s development of e-government services has been recognised in the United Nations (UN) e-Government Survey, which saw the country rise to number 27 in the online service index rankings, a significant improvement from its previous ranking of 90 in 2010. The survey also placed Qatar at number nine in the e-Participation index for 2012.

    The online service index measures development of online service delivery to citizens and businesses through the Internet and other digital means, while the e-Participation index is indicative on how governments create an environment in which citizens can be more active and supportive of their governments.

  • Republic of Korea receiving Major United Nations Special Awards for Good Governance

    On 25 June 2012 in the United Nations Headquarters, Republic of Korea will receive 3 special awards for three first positions in 3 clusters from 4 categories of the UN e-Government Survey. The country has set high standards for e-government development, in line with the categories described by the UN e-Government Survey.

    The UN e-Government Survey, which publishes every two years, serves as a tool for decision-makers to identify their areas of strength and challenges. This year’s winners embody the vision and commitment necessary to transform public administration to ensure efficacy, transparency, responsiveness, participation and inclusion in the delivery of public services.

  • Singapore E-Government Wins United Nations Special Awards

    In light of its dedication towards the public sector, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) received a special award in the United Nations (UN) e-Government Survey in New York, clinching the No. 2 spot in the global e-participation ranking. This award is shared with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA).

    "Earning the UN e-Government Survey 2012 Special Award further solidifies Singapore's place in the international market as a creator and driver of e-Government initiatives," said Kevin Chan, Centre Director Designate, Middle East, IDA Singapore.

  • Singapore government’s best ICT projects recognised

    12 public sector organisations recognised in FutureGov Singapore Awards ceremony.

    The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority won ‘Government Organisation of the Year’ for its ‘Biometric Identification of MotorBikers’ project [pictured: the ICA team celebrating their success after the end of the award] - capping this year’s FutureGov Singapore Awards event, as more than 150 executives attended the awards ceremony at the Raffles Hotel earlier this week.

  • South Korea: Anti-Corruption Body Wins Best e-Gov’t Award in Sweden

    The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) has won the top award conferred by the e-Challenges Conference and Exhibition to a helpful e-government systems.

    The award ceremony took place in Stockholm, Sweden, last Friday, a commission spokesman said Thursday.

  • Taiwan: E-government services seen as world's best

    Taiwan is the top performing country when it comes to "electronic" government, according to a recent global e-government survey, thanks to the efforts of the government to promote Internet access to its data and services in recent years.

    According to a survey of 1,935 government Web sites in 198 countries conducted by the Center for Public Policy at Brown University in the summer, Taiwan ranked No. 1 for its e-government performance and on-line services.

  • Technology Lessons from Seoul, South Korea

    It is humbling to be an American technology expert visiting Seoul, South Korea. In case you don't know it, that Asian city has the world's fastest broadband. While there for the inaugural general assembly of the World e-Government Organization, I compared notes with meeting host Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. He told me his broadband speed ranges from 100 to 300 mbps, while I had to confess mine averages 50 at the office and a meager four at my Washington, D.C. home.

    The Seoul Metropolitan Government has new mobile applications for smart phones. Through their mobile devices, people can find when the next bus arrives, where the closest restaurants are to their current location, the latest data on air and water quality, and where traffic congestion is at its worst.

  • UAE bags the Best Federal Portal award

    The federal portal of the UAE government (www.government.ae) has achieved the first place among the six GCC government portals at the second GCC eGovernment Conference and Award held in Kuwait.

    Various UAE government entities also bagged most of the GCC eGovernment Awards by achieving the first place in three out of the six categories of the Award.

    Other top achievers include Dubai Health Authority (DHA) which achieved first place for Best eContent and Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) which achieved first place in the Best eService category (G2C). Appreciation Awards were presented to Zakat Fund for Best public eService and the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for Best Portal in the Development Sector for its portal www.gcaa.gov.ae.

  • UAE: Dubai eGovernment wins Network World Middle East’s Network Security Award

    Dubai eGovernment was declared the winner of the Network World Middle East’s award for the best network security project for the year 2010 during the grand ceremony held recently at Mina A’Salam Hotel, thereby adding a new honour to its list of achievements.

    Commenting on the award, Ahmad Al Humaidan, Director-General, Dubai eGovernment said: “I congratulate the Infrastructure Management team for this award which is a result of continuous efforts that have been exerted in the field of network security projects. Dubai eGovernment has built a robust and secure Government Information Network, which has become the cornerstone of the electronic infrastructure of Dubai Government and the spinal column for connecting government and semi-government bodies at a high speed that ensures safe and cost-effective exchange of information and smooth integration for these bodies. It has also provided synergistic and shared services to the government bodies, these being the basic systems for effectively managing their internal resources, thereby enabling them to focus on discharging their direct tasks for the public and concentrate more on providing eServices to them.”
