  • Health insurance cards as universal IDs

    The German Cabinetpassed a new e-card strategy in its session today. Electronic health insurance cards with digital signatures and insurance IDs that do not expire will be used as digital identification cards and signature cards for e-government, such as income statements. The Ministries of the Economy, the Interior, Health, and Finances support the unified e-card strategy, which is to be used all over Germany.

    The gross revenue from the sale of the Dubrovnik Pass in 2022 exceeded 45 million Kuna, thereby surpassing the gross revenue recorded in 2019.

  • IN: Biometric cards for Assam small tea growers soon

    Small tea growers in Assam will soon get biometric smart cards with a unique number.

    The move has been initiated by the Tea Board of India.

    Its executive director, Rakesh Saini, said Wednesday that the process of giving biometric cards will start April 28 at Sonitpur. Twelve small tea growers will be given biometric cards on that day, he said.

    The Tea Board has collaborated with Amtron, the nodal agency of the Assam government for development, promotion and implementation of IT-related activities, for the project, he said.

  • IN: Delhi Buses Go Digital With Smart Card Ticketing

    The Delhi Transport Corporation is set to launch a contactless smart card-based ticketing system for its vast city bus network.

    The initiative, which is expected to go live within a month, is part of a larger agenda to eliminate paper-based passes and usher in a more efficient, eco-conscious fare collection system in India’s capital city. This development is being implemented under the guidance of the Delhi government, with the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) entrusted to oversee the rollout. DIMTS will also distribute the contactless cards to commuters for a nominal fee of ₹50. The original manufacturing and setup cost of each card is ₹71, but a significant portion of that will be subsidised to encourage widespread adoption. Once issued, the cards can be topped up or recharged easily, and pass renewals will cost ₹14.

  • IN: Goa: Smart City launches card for paperless Panaji travel

    The launch of the Smart Transit Card (STC) and the travel-aid app Tummoc on Wednesday will transport Panaji’s e-bus commuters to the world of paperless ticketing, allowing them to tap in and out to board or alight.

    The technology will be available from Thursday. It has been introduced by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) and Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) as part of the Smart City initiative.

    Ration cards, the ubiquitous source of sustenance for the poor, are going digital.

    And with it, officials hope, the deep-rooted corruption that drains the public distribution system too will come to end.

    Under Project Akshaya,Karnataka government's e-initiative, 110 lakh ration card holders will be provided the new barcoded variant. The 6"x4" laminated single sheet will feature names, age and colour photographs of all family members (above 12 years), a barcode number and a special identity number read only by a reader device.

    The Centre is keen to complete the pilot project of issuing multi-purpose national identity cards (MNICs) to citizens by March 2009 just in time before general elections.

    The government wants to operationalise the scheme in the backdrop of rising cases of terrorism, infiltration and fake voter ID, rat-ion card which are difficult to detect. Sources in home ministry said the deadline for the scheme has been extended from December 2008 to March 2009, given that the maintenance period of renewing cards and issuing new cards to those citizens left uncovered under the scheme, which is still not been completed in states like UP, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Jammu, Tripura and Agartala.

    With an aim to create single identity number for each citizen, the govt has launched a special project for issuance of National Unique Identity Card which will carry a single number for all key documents like passport, voter card and driving licence.

    “Today, each individual has several identification numbers beginning with election card, passport, driving licence and other social security numbers. So, now we are attempting to cull out all information from these identification documents and to create a unique identity number for each individual citizen,” Minister of State for Personnel Prithviraj Chavan told a press conference at New Delhi on Friday.

    The job cards of beneficiaries in 200 districts across India are set to expire in 2011. The process of job card renewal under the biometric system would take six months to two years. This would deny the registered people 100 days of guaranteed work.

    Mehr Planungssicherheit bei den Kartenprojekten im Rahmen der eCard-Initiative fordert der Bundesverband der Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und neue Medien (BITKOM). "Die Projekte sind derzeit untereinander wenig abgestimmt", sagt BITKOM-Geschäftsführer Peter Broß heute in Berlin. Zudem soll der Steuerzahler die Zeche zahlen: "Da die Verwaltung ein großer Nutznießer dieser neuen Services ist, sollte sie sich auch angemessen an den Kosten beteiligen", fordert Broß. Dies solle die Bundesregierung in einem für Anfang März geplanten Kabinettsbeschluss deutlich machen.

"Die geplante E-Card-Strategie ist nicht sinnvoll", sagte KBV-Vorsitzender Andreas Köhler der 'Berliner Zeitung' (Freitagsausgabe). Die Gesundheitskarte, samt der dazu gehörigen Infrastruktur, sei schon alleine eine technische Revolution von ungeheurer Dimension.

    Die Papierform zur Bestätigung des Krankenstands ist in Österreich bald Geschichte. Seit heute, Dienstag, werden Patienten durch den Arzt direkt auf elektronischem Weg krank oder gesund gemeldet. Das ermöglicht der in die E-Card integrierte Chip. Der Arzt aktiviert diesen über eine Online-Maske und leitet die Krankmeldung an den Sozialversicherungsträger des Patienten weiter. Bisher wurden in Österreich An- und Abmeldungen des Krankenstands in Papierform ausgestellt. Vom neuen System verspricht sich der Verband der Sozialversicherungsträger jährlich eine Kosteneinsparung von vier Mio. Euro.

  • NG: Ondo State Launches eGovernance Multipurpose Digital Card

    Ondo State government has launched a multipurpose digital card called ‘Kaadi Igbe Ayo’, designed to help the state government manage, monitor and audit all free services that the state will be offering to all residential persons.

    Managed by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), but funded by the state government, the digital card, which comes with high security features, will be distributed free of charge to all interested persons, upon registration.

    Project Coordinator of ‘Kaadi Igbe Ayo’, Mr. Tunde Yadeka, told ICT journalists last Tuesday that the card would serve so many functions relating to egovernance.
