  • ITALY: STANCA REPORTS USE OF 17 TONS LESS PAPER AFTER AUTOMATION

    "By using the internet, the Foreign Minister has reduced paper consumption by 17 tons of paper only from telegram exchanges with foreign offices and the issuing of email addresses, practically eliminating the use of paper", said Innovation and Technology Minister Lucio Stanca at the first national conference of top State authorities.

  • Italy: STANCA, 7 MLN EURO FOR CIVIL SERVICE ON HOME TELEVISION

    A new t-government service will offer multimedia services via land digital on home television to provide on-line civil service information and services. Innovations and Technology Minister Lucio Stanca, in the context of the "land digital" project already approved by the Committee of Information Society Ministers, has announced the setting aside of seven million euro for co-funding of e-government information applications, based on "land digital" and destined for the public. The Minister has also provided for the setting up of a centre responsible for land digital to assist local administrations in setting up the new technology.

    "E-government can make federalism more efficient because it makes it possible for various autonomous institutions to co-exist, but it needs to have integrity and national coherence, otherwise there is a risk of balkanising of the Public Administration with an increase in the complexity of the bureaucracy weighing on the shoulders of the people".
  • Italy:E-GOVERNMENT: SECOND PHASE NOW WITH 209.5 MLN, SAYS STANCA

    The second phase of the e-government process is ready, and will be allocated 209.5 million euro. Besides, for the first time, Government, Regions, Provinces, Municipalities and Mountain Communities all agree on the project. That's what the minister for technology and innovation, Lucio Stanca, said today. "The greatest Italian 'service company', that is the state, decided to undergo a total restructuring, transferring competences. This will lead to great benefits as regards efficiency and economy, and will coincide with a radical innovation in processes, services and management" said Stanca.
  • Lineaamica.gov.it - The new portal for Italian citizens

    On 14 April 2011, Italian Minister for Public Administration and Innovation Renato Brunetta unveiled at a press conference the new portal for Italian citizens, www.lineaamica.gov.it. The portal makes it possible for citizens to reach the Public Administration through a single 'virtual door', to benefit from easy-to-use and fast services.

    The new website is intended to serve as another pillar of the 'good administration' model for the provision of government services to citizens. It will use the back office and the successful experience of 'Linea Amica', the multimedia contact centre to promote government services. That service was launched in January 2009 at the initiative of Minister Brunetta and implemented by FormezPA, an organisation placed under the authority of the Department of the Public Service. During its two years of operation, Linea Amica positively answered half a million requests and placed online over 1 100 government department response centres which dealt with approx. 122 million requests.

    The Italian government is focusing on a growing amount of IT resources at the local administration level.

  • Milan tops Italian smart city ranking for 6th straight year

    Milan (Lombardy) has been voted the leading Italian smart city for the sixth consecutive year, according to the ICityRank survey of 107 cities conducted by FPA, a Digital360 company. Lombardy's capital topped the economic and sustainable mobility indicators but fared less well in e-government and environmental protection. Second and third-placed Florence and Bologna closed the gap thanks to good results in social quality, digital transformation and e-government capacity, with Bergamo and Turin rounding out the top 5.

  • New 'Italia.gov.it' portal now online

    On 3 August 2010, the new version of the 'Italia.gov.it' portal was officially presented at a press conference as Italy's 'eGovernment search engine'.

    The new portal was unveiled by Carlo Deadato, the head of the Cabinet of Renato Brunetta, the Minister for Public Administration and Innovation, as well as by Fabio Pistella, the Extraordinary Commissioner of DigitPA - the new Agency for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Public Administration -, Giorgio de Rita, General Director of DigitPA and Carlo Flamment, the President of FormezPA - a non-profit association tasked with supporting the modernisation, competitiveness, efficiency of the Italian public administration at all levels of government.

  • Only 19% of Italians use e-government - OECD

    Italy continues to lag behind the rest of the world in the uptake of online public services, with only Chile registering worse e-government uptake indicators. The OECD’s Government at a Glance report surveyed 20 of the world’s major economies and found that only 19 percent of Italians use the internet to interact with public authorities and use resources available online, compared with an OECD average of 50 percent. In fact, the figures in most EU countries are more than double the Italian rate, headed by France (61 percent) and followed by Germany (51 percent), Spain (45 percent) and the UK (45 percent).

  • Only 24% of Italians used e-govt sites in 2015 - study

    Only 24 percent of Italians interacted electronically with public services in 2015, according to a report from Bem Research cited by business daily Il Sole 24 Ore. The figure is less than a third of the 80 percent e-government interaction seen in Denmark and Estonia, and lags well behind that seen in larger countries such as France (63%), Germany (53%) and the UK (49%). Only Bulgaria (17%) and Romania (11%) fare worse than Italy, which is still over 20 percent below the EU average of 46 percent.

  • Opening of the Italian Competence Centre on Open Source

    A non profit consortium on open source software for business intelligence applications –the Italian Competence Center on Open Source - has recently been opened.

    The aim of this web-based centre is to foster the development and adoption of open source software mainly in the Italian public administrations; the centre will initially focus on the use of open source in schools and universities and in a second phase in small and medium sized companies.

  • Poste Italiane launches secure digital ID service

    Poste Italiane has launched a new secure digital identity service designed to support e-government services and online payment activity.

    The national postal operator in Italy said its new “posteID” service will provide a high level of protection for consumers in transactions on the Internet.

    Confidentiality and security in the service are guaranteed by Poste Italiane, it said, pushing the trust in its brand.

  • Smart Cities for Italy of intelligent and sustainable Cities

    Smart Cities at the center of the digitalization process of the country system. The first report was presented today in Rome ‘Italy of smart and sustainable cities’ created by the TIM Study Center in collaboration with the ‘Smart City’ and ‘Startup Intelligence’ Observatories of the Milan Polytechnic and with the Department of Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transport of the CNR.

    Pietro Labriola, Chief Executive Officer, opened the meeting and together with Elio Schiavo, TIM Chief Enterprise and Innovative Solutions Officer, illustrated the development prospects of Smart Cities in Italy and the digital services that the Group makes available to the Public Administration and local authorities. The mayor of Assisi Stefania Proietti and the General Manager of Technological and Digital Innovation of the Municipality of Milan Guido Arnone also took part in the event to discuss what has already been achieved and the future of two different but very important cities.

  • South Korea, Italy to collaborate on e-govt projects

    Korea and Italy have signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation on e-government at Palazzo Vidoni in Rome, Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS) of Korea said.

    MOPAS Minister Maeng Hyung-kyu and his Italian counterpart Minister for Public Administration and Innovation Renato Brunetta have met to exchange views on the programmes of modernization and digitalization of the public sector of both countries.

    After the meeting, the two ministers signed the MOU on issues of e-government and innovation that will allow for collaborations and exchange of experience in the fields of health, education, justice and security.

  • South Korea, Italy to Cooperate on E-Government Programs

    Korea and Italy have signed a memorandum of understanding on strengthening cooperation in the e-government sector.

    The Ministry of Public Administration and Security said Thursday that Minister Maeng Hyung-kyu and his Italian counterpart Renato Brunetta agreed to collaborate on e-government programs.

  • STANCA ANNOUNCED, ''ITALY IN THE FOREFRONT FOR THE DIGITAL SIGNATURE''

    "Italy is not only in the forefront for the diffusion of the digital signature, but also, above all, one of the 10 objectives of legislature will be reached and surpassed, that is to have a million digital signatures by the end of the year. To date, 800 thousand devices have already been emitted." This was announced by the minister for innovation and technology, Lucio Stanca, who spoke at the Milan Chamber of Commerce meeting regarding the new computerized register for businesses, emphasizing the importance of the digital signature, with which, he stated, "paper documents will vanish, processes will be quicker, it allows for a reduction in the risk of not receiving documents, and furthermore reduces costs (paper, shipment, archiving), with savings of 260 million euros per year estimated by Carlo Sangalli.
