  • UAE: Training session begins at Dubai Government Excellence Programme

    The Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP) began training employees of six government departments on the implementation of the first phase of electronic customer complaints system.

    The course, which will run until 2 July, consists of three stages: the first phase covers information technology administrators in government departments. The two-day second stage will focus on Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police. The third stage will focus on the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD), the Dubai Health Authority and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

  • UAE: Two More Banks Join Dubai eGovernment’s e-Pay Gateway During GITEX 2009

    Part of efforts to expand "Direct Debit" platform

    Dubai eGovernment has announced the inclusion of two more banks, Dubai Islamic Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, to its ePay gateway during the GITEX Technology Week 2009 running until the 22nd of October. The banks now allow their clients to electronically pay dues incurred on e-services anytime and anywhere through the gateway’s ‘Direct Debit’ facility.

  • UAE: Two new initiatives by Dubai eGovernment

    Dubai eGovernment is to introduce two new initiatives – an electronic import/export permit and an online signature system – by the end of the year.

    E-Permit and Cyber-Sign will be implemented by Saudi Arabia-based Somac Information Technology and Dubai-based Al Taqnyah Business Solutions.

  • UAE: UAE Armed Forces GHQ to launch e-tendering portal

    The UAE Armed Forces General Headquarters (GHQ) will soon launch its new electronic tendering portal, enhancing the efficiency, speed and transparency of its procurement process and bringing the system on par with international standards.

    This was announced at a joint press conference attended by the Armed Forces and ITQAN, UAE's leading IT solutions provider, which implemented the project in association with its international partner BiP Solutions Ltd. of the United Kingdom. The press conference was held on the sidelines of the International Defense Exhibition (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi.

  • UAE: UN honours Dubai Municipality

    In a ceremony held at its premises here on Friday, the United Nations honoured the Dubai Municipality for wining the 2006 public services award in the area of application of information technology and telecommunications in the government sector, e-government.

    By winning the award, Dubai becomes the first Arab city to win the prestigious award.

  • UAE: UNB introduces innovative e-services in partnership with Dubai E-Government

    Union National Bank (UNB) has announced its signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai's e-government to facilitate e-payment services to the bank's customers.

    The agreement will enable all UNB customers to settle payments to Dubai government organizations electronically, including settling utility bills, police fines, in addition to recharging Salik tags. By signing this agreement UNB becomes the only bank in Abu Dhabi to offer this facility to its clients. UNB also provides its clients with the service of paying their Utility (Electricity & Water) bills as well as Etisalat bills through the internet.

  • UAE: UNDP lauds Dubai Municipality's e-Government initiative

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has congratulated Dubai Municipality for winning the coveted Dubai Government Excellence Award for the Distinguished e-Government Department, which has been announced earlier this month.
  • UAE: UNDP team from Jordan briefed on e-Services

    A visiting delegation from the United Nations Development Programme in Jordan lauded the e-Government initiative of Dubai Municipality which has made government services easily accessible for the city's residents.

    The delegation, headed by Lutfi AbdulRahim, Director of programme, and consists of Fathi Mahmood, Jehad Abdullah Attar, and Omar Mahmood Al Beitar, was briefed on the e-Services being provided by the Municipality to its clients.

  • UAE: Unified web services to be ready in 3 years

    The UAE will have a unified comprehensive electronic federal e-Government portal within three years, a senior official at the General Information Authority (GIA) has said.

    Salem Khamis Al Shair, the Director General of GIA, told Gulf News on the sidelines of the first Federal e-Government programme forum - which discussed the strategic plan of the programme - that he expects ministries to be ready to provide acceptable electronic services as part of the federal e-Government portal within three years.

  • UAE: Use of kiosks to grow by 69% by 2007; $30bn vending industry to revolutionize retail sector

    H.E. Abdul Rahman G. Al Mutaiwee, Director-General of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), will inaugurate the Middle East Vending and Kiosk Expo on May 20, 2006 at the Joharah Ballroom, Madinat Jumeirah Hotel.

    The event will be first self-service technology expo to be held in the Middle East.

  • UAE: Users of civic body's online services soar

    A growing number of citizen are now using the three Dubai Municipality online services launched on December 27 last year. The municipality said the SMS Service, Demarcation Service and the Zoning Regulations Service have become popular since they were introduced some 50 days ago.
  • UAE: Visa applicants angered by inaccurate information

    Visa applicants have criticised Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department for providing inaccurate information on the phone and via its website.

    M.A., who applied for a housemaid's visa last month, said the information on the website was useless and even telephone information given by a department officer was no help.

    A number of other applicants dealing with visa desks at the department said they do not trust information given to them by the information desk.

    A Kuwaiti delegation comprising information technology specialists from the General Secretariat of the Cabinet of Kuwait recently visited Dubai to gain first hand information about the digital transformation in the emirate and learn from Dubai eGovernment’s experience. The delegation commended the advances made by Dubai in the recent years with regard to the provision of electronic services and creation of a robust eGovernance system.

    Dubai eGovernment has recently announced that a senior Singapore government delegation representing Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the statutory board under the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA), visited Dubai to involve in mutually beneficial discussions about eGovernance.

    Dubai has established a dedicated counter for e-government services at the Customer Services Centre in the Dubai Municipality Head Quarters.

    Khalid Abdel Rahim Abdullah, Head of Customer Services Section said the move goes along with the e-government initiative of Dubai government aimed at making Dubai a pioneering centre of activities.

    Dubai Municipality (DM), a government organisation providing the backbone for most of the city’s public services, believed that its existing system was not capable of ensuring security across its network. Responsible for a range of public services such as transport, planning, public health, and roads services, the organisation required a robust, speedy security solution to continue to meet the demands of the rapidly expanding city.

    Against a backdrop of rapid economic growth and increased demands on its systems there was a clear business need behind the Municipality’s desire to overhaul its in-house IT security. At a fundamental level, Dubai Municipality required a security solution that would ensure its network was free from security risks such as viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and other attacks.

  • UAE: Work permits being issued online

    Companies in Dubai will be able to conduct the bulk of transactions involving work permits online, according to a Ministry of Labour circular.

    The Ministry of Labour in cooperation with the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) has started issuing online work permits in an effort to develop its electronic services.

    A massive advertising campaign was launched on Tuesday to promote Dubai eGovernment's portal www.dubai.ae which the public can access for all online services.

    The move comes as government departments accelerate efforts to improve their online services in line with the target set by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 90 per cent of government services online and attain a utilisation rate of not less than 50 per cent.

    The number of government departments and establishments honoured at the Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) Awards 2005 has risen to 12, while two other establishments received special recognition.

    The Program's administration expressed its satisfaction with the results that the Program has achieved since its inception eight years ago.
