    Aim is to improve customer services and increase living standards

    The UAE yesterday launched a national strategy for artificial intelligence (AI) to improve customer services, assess government performance and increase living standards as well as to harness AI technology in the transport, tourism, health and education sectors.

    The AI strategy 2031 was launched during Sunday’s Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in the presence of Lt Gen Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

    The Cabinet has endorsed the federal electronic government plan till 2014 to upgrade the transition efforts to the electronic services, set up an advanced electronic infrastructure and provide appropriate legal basis for provision of advanced electronic services.

    Chairing the Council of Ministers session here today at the Presidential Palace, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that all the ministries and federal institutions are required within two years from now to provide comprehensive electronic services to public.

    Service available via Interior Ministry mobile application

    UAE citizens and families are being urged to avail of the electronic services available via the Ministry of Interior’s smart application, UAE-MOI, to renew their passports electronically.

    The services conveniently allow customers to complete their transactions without needing to visit the service centres, excluding special cases that require the customer to be present. The smart application is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and Blackberry operating systems.

    The Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai is participating in GITEX 2012, the premier technology exhibition and conference in the Middle East, under the Dubai e-Government umbrella. The exhibition, which is taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre until October 18, has provided CDA with a wide platform to showcase its website featuring state-of-the-art electronic services and IT infrastructure.

    The Social Regulatory and Licensing sector services which are a new addition to its Integrated Case Management System (ICMS) will be introduced by CDA at GITEX 2012. This service provides the automation of all its procedures as well as its regulatory and licensing operations such as registering and licensing of social clubs, professionals and facilities; and scheduling visits. The Social Regulatory and Licensing aims at increasing the efficiency and productivity of this sector by achieving its strategic goals with relatively small resource requirements.

    CDA website revamped to include six new e-services

    Whether it’s registering a social club, seeking professional psychological help, or reporting human rights violations, Dubai residents can now access these services from Community Development Authority (CDA) with just a click of a mouse.

    CDA has revamped its website to include six new e-services into its portal including the Social Benefits, El Kayt programme, and Facilities and Venues Booking for UAE nationals. Other e-services for the public have likewise been added such as Social Service Provider, Human Rights Complaints, and Application Enquiry.

    Emirates Identity Authority Director-General Dr Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, is not one to gloat over his achievements. He’s quietly working to create a backbone for e-governance at the organisation he heads under the MoI. Dr Khouri is a friendly host and his dedication to duty, energy and dynamism are palpable. He promised us 30 minutes, but the interview stretched to over an hour. When asked if he’s a workaholic, he replies with a laugh, ‘‘Ask me when I finish work’’. The EIDA chief feels there is a lot more to be done and he’s working overtime to ensure every resident in the UAE gets an ID card in an ‘easy and convenient’ way. The EIDA chief is also pressing ahead to integrate government services using the ID card.
  • AE: Crown Prince of Dubai visits Abu Dhabi e-Government pavilion at GITEX 2014

    Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, visited the Abu Dhabi e-Government pavilion at GITEX 2014 earlier today. Alongside HE Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General, ADSIC, the Crown Prince toured the 1591 square metres space and had the opportunity to see up-close the latest apps and software offerings of 22 different government entities.

    During the visit, which lasted approximately 20 minutes, the Crown Prince praised the entities’ efforts in implementing innovative e-solutions that support the UAE’s goal of becoming a knowledge-based economy and society.

  • AE: Customs introduces advanced e-services

    The Dubai Customs, in a bid to boost business, launched special mobile e-services for their 100,000 plus customers, a media release said.

    The mobile phone electronic services, initiated on Wednesday, are directed to the companies and firms that use 'Mirsal-2' in processing customs transactions, apart from other clients and staff.

    Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Executive Director, Customers Management, at a customs announcement event said the move is aimed to make customs services accessible round-the-clock with a variety of free, advanced and easy to reach electronic services.

    The Business Registration & Licensing (BRL) Division of the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) will expand its e-Services window by offering those services through law firms in Dubai by August 2012.

    The initiative will be a significant value addition for business owners and investors as it allows them to complete business registration faster and at their convenience. The initiative also reflects DED's persistent efforts to enhance the UAE's top rankings in the World Bank's Doing Business Report for 2013 and promote the country as a globally competitive business hub.

    The Department of Economic Development has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the technology solutions provider Infas ME to collaborate in promoting electronic services and information exchange. The partnership, which will see Infas ME providing state-of-the-art information technology solutions and support services to DED, is part of DED 's efforts to accomplish the vision and strategy of the Government of Dubai to enhance service delivery.

    The MoU was signed by Mohammed Al Shehhi, Deputy Executive Director of Shared Services sector in DED, and Raef Eid, General Manager of Infas ME, in the presence of senior executives from DED and its agencies as well as Infas ME representatives.

  • AE: DED launches smart phone App to manage business registration and licensing services

    The Department of Economic Development, DED, in Dubai is showcasing its latest technology innovations and eServices for customers at the Gitex Technology Week 2012, the premier information technology expo being held at the Dubai International Convention Centre from 14-18 October. The Gitex participation coincides with the launch of a Beta version smart phone application (App) to manage DED’s business registration and licensing services.

    Commenting on the latest service enhancements, Mohammed Shael Al Saadi, Chief Executive Officer of DED’s Business Registration and Licensing BRL Sector said the Department focuses on keeping pace with the technological advances in Dubai and the UAE, chiefly to enhance the ease of doing business.

  • AE: DED sets 8th April for receiving Electronic Trade Licence Transactions

    The Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi (DED) is due to start on Sunday, 8th April, the process of issuing electronic trade licences whereby all clients will have to submit the required documents in an electronic format.

    Mohamed Moneef Al Mansouri, the acting Executive Director of the Commercial Affairs Division at DED, stated that this measure is being introduced within the framework of DED's endeavor to upgrade and promote the process of issuing trade licenses in Abu Dhabi using electronic means, aiming to accelerate the issuance process towards the fulfillment of the Emirate's ultimate goal of shifting into an E-government.

    The Business Registration & Licensing (BRL) Division of the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) recently organised a workshop on the business registration system for representatives of law firms in Dubai. The initiative was intended to enable law firms to use DED's data and process BRL services (to establish new companies and renew licenses) for clients via DED's website www.dubaided.gov.ae from their own premises.

    The initiative will be a significant value addition for business owners and investors as it allows them to complete business registration fast and at their convenience online. BRL is keen to provide more customer service windows beyond the official working hours of DED.

    The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) has signed an agreement with Al Reaya Services to enhance the eServices being offered to customers, expedite licences, and simplify doing business in Dubai.

    Mr Mohammed Shael Al Saadi, CEO, Business Registration and Licensing Division of DED, and Mr Abdulla Nasser Al Nuaimi, General Manager of Al Reaya Services, signed the agreement at the DED headquarters recently.

    The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai has successfully completed a critical data transfer project, which included migration of equipment and services from the old building, to enhance customer satisfaction and centralise information technology management across all business units and processes.

    The project, which involved selecting and implementing cutting edge technology solutions, was completed by DED's IT Department within a short period. The focus was on enabling DED's Data Centre to keep pace with the rapid development in technology and information systems and offer a unified service platform that guarantees faster and more efficient service delivery.
